Recently attended my fourth USPAP class in San Diego as part of the every 5-year ASA recertification requirements. While I admit that it is not my favorite way to spend 15 hours sitting in a rather crowded conference room, the benefits far outweigh the time spent. USPAP is an evolving document that has really come full circle since my early days as an appraiser. The content, intentionality and thoroughness of USPAP helps make us, as appraisers and the overall valuation profession, a much better, safer and dependable choice for our clients and the general public. The level of transparency, disclosure, ethics, competency and unbiased reporting that USPAP drills down to the very core is what separates true professionals from everyone else that claims to be a valuation or appraisal expert. I appreciate and applaude the ASA , The Appraisal Foundation and other valuation societies that have contributed to the betterment of our profession.
